Best Activities in Lake Tahoe for Non-Skiers

Our top recommended things to do in Lake Tahoe with no resorts, or little snow.

Wintertime in Tahoe is one of the most magical things you can experience. Whether it’s during a major storm or a weekend on the slopes, winter in Tahoe really has something for everyone.

What do you do though when the snow just doesn’t want to fall?

Even in an off year, Tahoe has things for everyone to do! All the ski resorts will have runs open, but maybe you just want to get out and not ride the same runs with everyone else. If not, here is our list of the top three things to do in Tahoe over the weekend or the week long you decide to spend at the lake.

Getting right down to it, our number one thing we recommend to everyone when they come to the lake is to go snowshoeing.

Alpenglow Expeditions (alpenglowexpeditions.com) does guided private tours 7 days a week with experienced and seasoned backcountry guides who can take you into Tahoe’s wilderness and show you places you would never see.
Prices are solid and you will love the experience too.

Coming in at spot number two, maybe you want some adrenaline in your life! How about some snowmobiles? There are two places that offer great intro to snowmobiling  tours in both north lake and South Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe Snowmobile tours operates on Brockway summit in Tahoe Vista in North Lake and will give you views of historic North Tahoe that you wouldn’t normally see.

Tahoe Snowmobiles and Tubing is an amazing intro to snowmobiles and a fun time for everyone right there at Stateline NV in south lake. They make their own snow all year, so you can always go for a ride during the winter no matter what nature has delivered.

Finally, a decent winter trip isn’t complete until you have tried ice skating. Both North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe offer multiple places to go ice skating during the winter. The Village at Heavenly has a great rink, Truckee has one too, so does Northstar California.

For the experience and the views and the memories though, nothing beats going skating at High Camp at Palisades Tahoe.

A gondola ride at night and a short walk brings you to Olympic ice, where you can skate in the same spot the Olympics were held almost 70 years ago. For tickets, just go to the Palisades website and be sure to take pics while you’re there!

There’s a lot of guide you can read, and we thank you for reading ours. We’re just a couple of long time Tahoe residents that want to share our passion for where we live with you.

Thank you for reading! We’ll see you on the mountain!
